The CCP Gives Its Thirteen Artists Awards Website A New Look

By

The Cultural Center of the Philippines recently launched a redesigned Thirteen Artists Awards website that offers a comprehensive digital archive of awardees, exhibitions, and the evolution of Filipino contemporary art.

For more than five decades, the Thirteen Artists Awards (TAA) has stood as one of the most influential platforms recognizing artists who challenge conventions and redefine the boundaries of Philippine contemporary art. Now, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is bringing that legacy into the digital age with the relaunch of the Thirteen Artists Awards website, a comprehensive online archive dedicated to celebrating the award’s past, present, and future.

The newly redesigned platform offers a richer, more accessible way for audiences to engage with the stories, works, and achievements of the artists who have shaped the country’s visual arts landscape.

How The New Website Serves As A Multi-Generational Digital Archive

The revamped website serves as a centralized hub where visitors can explore awardee profiles, browse past exhibitions, and trace the evolution of modern and contemporary Philippine art through the decades.

Designed with a clean, mobile-responsive interface, the platform makes it easier for students, researchers, collectors, and art enthusiasts from around the world to discover both pioneering figures and emerging voices, the website highlighting the breadth and diversity of artistic practices recognized by the prestigious award.

According to CCP President Kaye C. Tinga, the relaunch reflects the institution’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage while embracing new ways of connecting with audiences. The platform not only documents the achievements of past recipients, but also creates opportunities for future generations to learn from and engage with their work.

The Thirteen Artists Awards: How The CCP Honors A Legacy Of Innovation

Established in 1970, the Thirteen Artists Awards is considered the oldest government recognition for visual artists in the Philippines. It was originally conceived as a curatorial project of the CCP Museum under the guidance of its first curator, Roberto Chabet, who envisioned a program that would support artists advancing new ways of thinking and making art.

The initiative later evolved into a formal awards program through the efforts of Raymundo Albano, then director of the CCP Museum and Non-Theater Operations. Since its inception, the TAA has consistently recognized artists whose practices push creative boundaries and reflect the changing realities of contemporary Philippine society.

Initially mounted every two years, the awards shifted to a triennial format following its revival in 2000, a structure that continues today. As the TAA enters a new chapter, the updated website ensures that its rich history remains accessible while providing a dynamic space for future artistic discoveries.
