Daisy Chain Fields had a clear purpose beyond giving everyone an excuse to spend the day listening to an absurdly good lineup. 100% of the festival’s net proceeds went to 10 nonprofit organizations supporting women and girls in the United States and around the world. The causes covered reproductive rights, maternal health, economic justice, gender equity, family support, domestic workers’ rights, and protection against domestic violence. Even better, the artists agreed to perform for free so the festival’s proceeds could go directly toward its nonprofit partners.
Ticket sales generated $10 million, which Melinda French Gates matched with another $10 million, bringing the total raised to $20 million. The funds will support organizations including Planned Parenthood, Baby2Baby, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, the Center for Reproductive Rights, the National Women’s Law Center, and the National Domestic Workers Alliance, among others. So yes, people came for Rodrigo and her roster of admirable women artists, but their tickets ended up supporting something much bigger than a very good day of live music.
