Bold Style Statements: Donald Glover Wore The Backwards Shoes

These are definitely the maddest shoes you’ll likely ever see at a basketball game.

There are a lot of sneakers and Sneakerheads that you will see in a basketball game, but Donald Glover took the “let the shoes do the talking” too seriously.

Glover became the talk of the town when he wore the MSCHF’s backwards shoes at a Nets game because, well, This Is America… I mean, this is Childish Gambino.

Glover, also known by his stage name, Childish Gambino, has a natural skill to catch attention and get people talking. From TV shows and movies to music—and the latest one, his footwear.

Just a few months ago, MSCHF recently broke the internet with their Big Red Boots and it quickly gained popularity for its resemblance to shoes worn by cartoon characters Astro Boy and Boots from Dora The Explorer. The shoes were worn by stars like Ciara, Lil Nas X, Iggy Azalea, Diplo, and Janelle Monaé.

Now just in time for the summer, MSCHF released a new sneaker that can be put on in two ways—the conventional way or backwards. Confused? Let Glover show you how he styled the shoes for the Brooklyn Nets vs. Orlando Magic game on April 7.

Dubbed the MSCHF BWD shoe, the sneaker appears to gain a lot of traction with people considering it as part of the slip-on footwear options in the market today with dual functionality.

Similar to the viral MSCHF’s Big Red Boots, celebrities have worn the BWD shoes in the days leading up to the release, to build anticipation for it. The shoes are also featured in a recent music video of Fall Out Boy and MSCHF also commissioned a photo shoot of a model wearing the BWD shoes around New York City.

Founded by Gabriel Whaley, MSCHF’s a brand that is no stranger to bold style statements. If you can remember, MSCHF created some buzzed-about items like the Satan Shoes which is in partnership with Lil Nas X, said to include a drop of human blood in the sole, and the Jesus Shoes, worn by Drake and containing holy water from the River Jordan.

What’s next for MSCHF? We never really know, but these pairs are quickly sold out and are being resold on sites like GOAT and StockX. I guess we’ll just have to see.
