Alcohol sales are seemingly starting to look up. In the US, premium liquor such as whiskey and tequila are posting record sales in the first quarter of 2021. Luxury tequila in particular has been noted as being on the rise.

Well, today is Cinco de Mayo, which to us sounds like a good day to add to that positive trend. Here are five bottles from five brands all available for delvery that we suggest you check out.

Don Julio

Don Julio González-Frausto Estrada began distilling tequila at 17 years old, and spent four decades perfecting his craft with only friends tasting the fruits his experimentation. It was only in 1985 when “Don Julio” became a brand itself when his sons commemorated his 60th birthday by creating a tequila label in his name. One of its most popular variants, Don Julio 1942, marks the year when the founder started his tequila journey as a teenager. With an ABV of 38 percent, the 1942 is aged for at least two and a half years and is a favorite of many around the globe.

Clase Azul

Founded in 2000 by Arturo Lomeli, the tequila and mezcal producer is known not only for their drink but the handcrafted containers they come in. Both the alcohol and the ceramic decanters are made in the small Mexican town of Santa Maria Canchesda, and its population of under 2,000 has greatly benefited from the income. The most popular in its line is the Clase Azul Reposado, which has a 40 percent ABV and made with Tequilana Weber Blue Agave that was slow-cooked for three days.

Patrón

Originally produced by Casa 7 Leguas, which is one of the oldest distilleries in Mexico, Patrón has been lead by several people in its decades-long existence. In 1989, John Paul DeJoria and Martin Crowley of St. Maarten Spirits bought brand rights. A little over a decade later, former racecar driver Ed Brown became the brand’s CEO, and developed its reputation as a premium drink in the trendy club scene. Three years ago, Bacardi bought the tequila label for $5.1 billion. Its triple-distilled, 40 percent ABV Gran Patrón Platinum might be a good bottle to celebrate with this year.

Tequila Ocho

Carlos Camarena and Tomás Estes are responsible for Tequila Ocho, which is made at the La Alteña Distillery. There, the Camarenas have been producing their other brands, El Tesoro de Don Felipe, Tequila Tapatío and Villalobos, since 1937. The family has been making tequila in the artisanal way for eight decades, which is one of the reasons why the label is called as such. A good bottle for today (any day actually) is its 2008 El Carrizal 8/8/8 Extra Anejo, which has an 48.8 ABV.

Casa Noble

Tequila has been in the heritage of Casa Noble founder Pepe Hermosillo’s family for centuryies. “Tequila started in my family in the 1700s, with my great grandmother who was married to the brother of Pedro Sanchez de Tagle, recognized in history books as the first official person to make tequila,” he shares in an interview with TasteTheDram. Half a decade ago, they produced the limited edition Alta Belleza, which was finished in barrels originally meant for prized win. There are 563 bottles of it in the world, which explains its price tag.
