Eau de Excellence: 3 Local Perfumes That Smell Like Roses

To celebrate National Women’s Month, we invite you to consider three local perfumes with refreshing floral scents that are ideal for any day out.

After applying makeup and ensuring they look as good as possible in the mirror, most women complete their getting-ready-to-go-out routine with a few spritzes of perfume. As part of the accouterments women adorn themselves with when facing the outside world, perfumes are a necessity—and can be, should you choose quality, an indulgence. Though everyone has their preferences (which is what makes fragrances so fun to play around with) there’s no denying the classic status of a floral-scented perfume.

Fragrances with floral notes are equal parts decadent and refreshing, lush and elegant: go-to choices for women who want to add a touch of sophistication to any ensemble. But if you have always reached for the foreign-made perfume in your shopping trips, know that you need not to anymore.

Entrepreneurs in the Philippines have risen up to craft quality local perfumes with us Filipinas in mind. Here, we present a trio of items crafted with love and care, for your consideration when you’re looking to indulge in some delightful, utterly chic fragrances:

101 Bergamot Patchouli Eau de Parfum by Scentsmith Perfumery

Scentsmith has been producing fragrances since 2017, and beyond that, the brand has also helped their customers feel good through their perfumes, be it joyful or simply content. Their products all work to promote both physical and mental wellness, eschewing toxic chemicals and instead opting for natural ingredients.

The brand’s products are not only safe to use, but also cruelty-free. Though the company’s name heavily references its perfumes, it also creates a variety of personal care products, including lotions and shampoos, to meet your every need.

One of the perfumes that many of Scentsmith’s female customers love is their 101 Bergamot Patchouli Eau de Parfum. It uses patchouli, musk, and amber as its base and incorporates the citrusy hints of bergamot and mandarin with an assortment of floral ingredients, among them peony, rose, and jasmine.

Swan by Radioactive Mushrooms in the Forest

The whimsically-named Radioactive Mushrooms in the Forest is the brainchild of renowned tattoo artist Wiji Lacsamana, who people know for her gentle art style that publications have compared to impressionist or watercolor paintings. Besides writing (Lacsamana has penned a book, Tiny Universe, whose illustrations she drew herself), she has also made inroads into the beauty industry with Radioactive Mushrooms. Under the brand, she creates cosmetics and perfumes that heal the mind and lift the heart.

As of this article’s writing, Radioactive Mushrooms offers three kinds of perfumes, two of which have already sold-out (for now). One of them is Swan, an organic vegan concoction smelling of raspberry, oakmoss, and carnations, calling up to mind, as per the site, the stillness of a moonlit night.

Organic Eau de Parfum in Eclat de Lumiere by Lumiere Organiceuticals

When you put together Shivina Uttam and her mother’s experience in aromatherapy and using herbs to treat ailments, it would add up to more than 20 years. They’ve put all the expertise they’ve gathered throughout the two decades to build their skincare brand, Lumiere Organiceuticals

The brand draws concepts from Ayurveda, a natural and ancient system of medicine that originates from India that focuses on helping the body regain balance. Uttam also draws from her experiences living in France, where she learned about the latest ingredients and the most advanced skincare formulation methods.

With her mother, she creates products under the direction of scientific practices and selects natural herbs, including ones used in Ayurveda—a melding, Lumiere’s website says, of science and nature. The amount of expert knowledge and quality ingredients they put into their skincare products should assure you that they apply the same rigorous standards to the perfumes they have come out with.

Of their two perfumes, one is currently sold out (as of this article’s writing), which should be proof of the regard with which Filipinos hold their products. For now, their Organic Eau de Parfum in Eclat de Lumiere is available for purchase, and uses essential oils (rather than artificial ingredients) of Cardamom and Damascus rose.
