Meanwhile, Mikel Zaguirre’s Locavore and Tom Bascon’s M Dining + Bar M made it to OAD’s Highly Recommended List.
Toyo Eatery and Mecha Uma both fell down from their places last year; the former was 46th in 2021 but is 78th in 2022 while the latter was 99th in 2021 but 100th in 20221. On the other hand, Chele Gonzalez retained its 139th ranking from last year. Locavore was also in the Highly Recommended list last year.
In a list dominated by restaurants in Hong Kong, Paul Pairet’s Shanghai-based Ultra-Violet, which describes itself as serving “Figurative Avant-Garde” cuisine lands at number one. It is followed by Tristin Farmer’s modern European establishment Zén – Frantzen in Singapore then by Supaksorn Jongsiri’s Bangkok-based Sorn.
Opinionated About Dining describes itself as “the only dining survey that factors experience into its rating system.” Founded by Steve Plotnicki, its rankings are based on reviews from chefs, restaurateurs, and other dining industry insiders.
It ranks under several categories, separating them under North America, Europe, and Asia. Japanese restaurants are a category in itself.
