Choosing art for a home can feel like a separate task from furnishing it. Hooga and Galerie Joaquin make the case for doing them in tandem. Their exhibition at Hooga’s Uptown Mall showroom places works by five Filipino artists among furniture, lighting, and home accessories, giving visitors a chance to see how a painting or sculpture changes the feel of a room.
The works are arranged throughout the showroom rather than gathered in a single gallery space. Jo Balbarona’s colorful, origami-inspired paintings offer a bright welcome, while Karina Baluyut’s neutral abstractions sit alongside quieter furnishings. Sheila Osmeña Go’s florals bring organic forms into the mix, and Averil Paras’ characters add a playful presence.

In the living room setting, Eufemio Rasco’s birds and sculptures introduce color and movement. Across the vignettes, visitors can see how an artwork might pick up a shade in the furniture, bring texture to a pared-back space, or become the piece around which a room takes shape.
“I’ve always loved beautiful spaces. For me, they are already living works of art,” says Jam Chan-Cua, managing director of Hooga Philippines. The collaboration puts that idea into practice: Galerie Joaquin’s artworks are shown in the kinds of spaces people furnish and spend time in, making it easier to imagine living with them.
The exhibition also offers a useful reminder that art doesn’t need a finished room waiting for it. More often than not, finding the right work is what helps the rest of the room come together.
