The concepts were said to offer new levels of flexibility for both passengers and airlines.

Sustainability is a top trend in submissions to the awards, which will return as an in-person event this year.

The eight award categories consist of Cabin Concepts, Cabin Systems, Health & Safety, IFEC & Digital Services, Material & Components, Passenger Comfort, Sustainable Cabin, and University.

The announcement of finalists will take place in May while the winners will be awarded in June.

Here are selected designs highlighted by the awards among the shortlisted entries.

Elevate

Teague and NORDAM’s entry is a “floating furniture” strategy designed to bring wide-body comfort to the single-aisle business class in limited available space.

AirLounge

The collaboration between Collins Aerospace, PriestmanGoode, and Tangerine produced Finnair’s new business class offering. It removes traditional seat recline and other features in favor of an organic, cocoon-like experience.

Shift Cabin Interior

University of Reutlingen student Jiayi Yu submitted his project that allows seats to be configured in multiple positions for the purpose of work or relaxation. These can be modified along the axis of the seat and to the side.

AirSleeper

MMILLENNIUMM’s experimental seating concept provides a seat that can be folded into a flat bed. This is accompanied by multiple surfaces at seat level and overhead.

NeXtGC

The German Aerospace Center innovates the “group of 6” concept through a modular concept. The idea attaches two facing rows of three seats to the sidewall and floor along with a rail system in the ceiling area. Essentially, this frees up spaces reserved for ceiling bins.
