Fifty years ago on July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 brought the first man to space. Four days later, he left his footprint on the lunar surface. The iconic moment in man’s history is unforgettable especially for OMEGA, the first timepiece worn on the moon. The brand celebrates its 50th anniversary of the golden moment with a Moon Landing exhibition. The worldwide phenomenal activation features a photo archive of the story of OMEGA’s achievement. It is a giant leap not only for man but for the luxury brand as well.

Filled with gold and glamor
In the country, July 21 marked the official launch. Celebrities and society figures like Raymond Gutierrez and Patty Ang with husband Migs Almeda graced the momentous reliving of OMEGA’s journey. They visited the exhibit that featured life-sized golden sculptures of astronauts. Beside each glinting statue is a photo depicting the moments and important people in the first lunar landing. This includes NASA veterans Buzz Aldrin and Charlie Duke, and even George Clooney, the brand ambassador.
Celebrities took part in commemorating the celebration through taking photos with a mini golden astronaut figure. The black apparel of the guests and the backdrop contrasted well against the gold ‘OMEGA’ logos and the bedazzling sculpture. These render the golden anniversary and iconic history of the luxury brand.

Reliving the journey
Situated at the center of the exhibit is the Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Limited Edition. Inspired from the Apollo 11 mission, the wristwatch depicts Buzz Aldrin climbing down onto the moon’s surface. The rare and elegant timepiece represents the golden moment of OMEGA as the first watch worn on the moon.
Among the displays are black-and-white photos of OMEGA’s first watch crafted for the manned space missions. Speedmaster BA145.022 was the only timepiece that survived the test for space exploration. For its 50th-anniversary, the watch was remodeled into Speedmaster in 18K Moonshine™ gold. It has engraved markings like “1969-2019”, “Apollo 11-50th Anniversary”, and “The First Watch Worn on the Moon.” These add nostalgic details to the timepiece.
The OMEGA Moon Landing Exhibition is open for viewing at The Lumina Lobby of The Podium until August 4, 2019.
