Here’s Why Scalp Care Is The New Ritual Moms Swear By

By

At Dove and Lifestyle Asia’s Mother’s Day escape, tastemaker moms reflect on the rituals they’ve learned to prioritize, placing scalp health at the center of a more holistic self-care routine.

Moms are, and always will be, that girl, no matter what stage of life they’re in. The most admirable thing about motherhood is this: there’s no handbook, no foolproof guide to doing things the “right” way, yet moms move through nonstop logistics, emotional labor, packed schedules, and caretaking with a grace that makes it look second nature. Still, with everyone else’s needs constantly being met, one has to ask: when does mom get the care she deserves? At an intimate Mother’s Day celebration by Dove and Lifestyle Asia, the answer came in the form of a simple yet impactful truth—that meaningful care begins with a return to the self.

Held at Anya Resort Tagaytay, the escape gave tastemaker moms the chance to slow down, breathe easy, and indulge in wellness treatments and activities away from the distractions and demands of everyday life.

Wellness That Starts At The Root

At the center of the experience was the Dove Derma Scalp line, a dermatologically tested anti-dandruff range formulated around three key ingredients: peptide+ serum to help prevent hairfall due to breakage; niacinamide known to support scalp barrier function; and pro-vitamin B5, which nourishes both scalp and hair. Designed to address dryness, itching, and flakes at the source, the line supports healthier hair while turning scalp maintenance into an integral part of everyday wellness.

For many women, hair is one of the most important investments they can make. It’s an aesthetic statement, yes—something you can cut, color, and style depending on your mood. But besides appearance, hair also plays a crucial role in cultivating confidence and identity, becoming one of those things that can turn a good day into a great one, where a mom feels most like herself.

The truth is that alongside the joys and rewards of motherhood come inevitable biological changes, some of which can affect hair health, including postpartum hairfall. Add packed schedules, demanding careers, and the nonstop nature of caregiving into the mix, and it becomes even more important for moms to devote time and attention to themselves, including their hair. But meaningful hair maintenance starts far deeper than surface-level styling.

Why Moms Love Dove Derma Scalp

Guests Gretchen Gatan Fragada, Rene McHugh Rodrigo, Marie Field Faith, Shari Poquiz, and Kally Araneta opened up about how scalp care became central to their hair journeys.

Gretchen, who experienced postpartum hairfall, found herself returning to the Dove Derma Scalp shampoo and conditioner after trying other products. “My hair fall lessened, I noticed that it was easier to have a good hair day—which is hard when you’re a mom and you don’t have the time to fix your hair,” she shares.

Rene, a clinical herbalist and certified lymphatic therapist who experienced alopecia after her three pregnancies, emphasized the importance of addressing problems at the source. “One of the things that’s really important to me, with hair care and scalp care, is that not only are we nourishing the body from within, but we’re also nourishing the roots and stimulating where hair growth comes from,” she explains. “With my alopecia journey, this was really the main focus for me: finding products that would really help me.”

Marie admitted that scalp care only became important after years of coloring treatments damaged her hair. “My hair really started to suffer,” she says. “That’s when I realized your hair’s health really starts from the roots.” She’s particularly drawn to the Dove Derma Scalp serum. “You really have to invest time to put it on. I love using it at night so my hair can just rest and let the serum absorb,” Marie expounds. “It really helps give your scalp the chance to regenerate or heal.”

Shari shares a similar perspective. “I used to put all kinds of products in my hair not knowing that healthy hair begins at the scalp,” she says. “Think of your scalp as a ‘soil’ for your plants, you really want it to be the best kind of soil so your hair can grow healthy and strong.”

Meanwhile, soon-to-be mom Kally Araneta appreciates how gentle the line feels for daily use. “I like that it’s really gentle, because usually some scalp treatments are very harsh,” she says. “So this one’s something you can use daily.”

Holistic Self-Care From Morning To Evening

After a wholesome meal of brunch favorites, moms participated in yoga classes led by instructor Tin Dayrit, the first in a series of activities and treatments that synthesize Dove’s emphasis on holistic care. It starts with the body and mind: breathing and affirmation exercises with synchronized movements, followed by a calming sound bath to clear the head.

Later in the afternoon, moms made their way to Niyama Wellness Center for spa treatments centered around the Dove Derma Scalp range. The ritual began with the Dove Derma Scalp Shampoo, powered by the brand’s Olacare Scalp Actives and piroctone olamine, which help target flakes, buildup, and itchiness at the source. This was followed by the Dove Derma Scalp Conditioner infused with glycerin, panthenol, and sunflower seed oil to replenish moisture, leaving both scalp and hair feeling hydrated, soft, and comfortable instead of stripped or dry.

The retreat culminated with a sumptuous dinner at Balay Dako, where guests gathered over Filipino favorites and great conversation.

At the end of the retreat, each guest took home a self-care kit filled with Dove Derma Scalp products, highlighting the idea that a return to the self isn’t relegated to a one-day escape. If anything, the experience served as a reminder that in order to continue caring for others, moms also deserve the time and space to care for themselves first. Like the scalp itself, that foundation matters more than people often realize, because it’s where healthy growth begins.
