For PONDER.ER, representing Hong Kong on Day 3 of Fashion Week Asia, the starting point is the city itself, from the lines that cross its skyline to the architecture that shapes its streets.
For Hong Kong label PONDER.ER, the city is as much a material as the fabric itself. What they’ve achieved is clothing that looks familiar at first glance but reveals a more considered construction the longer you look.

PONDER.ER, a semi-finalist for the 2024 LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers, approaches casualwear with a taste for the unconventional. Its Spring/Summer 2027 collection features custom-developed fabrics that have been crumpled, manipulated, and layered with sheer materials reminiscent of construction tarpaulins. Frayed edges appear on garments and bags, while tangled lines and intersecting forms recall the visual clutter of an urban landscape. The clothes remain wearable, their everyday silhouettes providing a counterpoint to the more experimental treatments applied to them.
There’s something almost mischievous about the premise. Most of us were taught to leave the house looking presentable, which generally meant ironing out the evidence of a hurried morning. Cheng and Go make a case for the opposite, turning wrinkles into a deliberate design decision. Their fabrics may look as though they’ve spent the afternoon at the bottom of a laundry basket, but the effect requires considerably more thought than simply skipping the ironing board.
Look closer, and the work begins to emerge in the details. Minuscule pleats and pintucks introduce texture, while sheer overlays add another layer to the collection’s play with construction. The fabric treatments create irregularity. Even the brighter shades of mint green and pink bring a welcome jolt to the otherwise architectural vocabulary.
Cheng and Go don’t need to reinvent the shirt or the bag to make their point. Instead, they turn their attention to what happens when the material itself refuses to behave.
