Fashion Week Asia Day 2: Maligaya Clothing Co. Transforms The Runway Into A Coastline

By

Maligaya Clothing Co. evoked the sun-drenched coastal sensibilities of summer in Fashion Week Asia 2026, its collection featuring upcycled crochet, vintage lace, and ocean-inspired details.

Rokko Arceo of Maligaya Clothing Co. brought a little summer to the Asia runway, his inspiration stemming from the textures and treasures of the sea. Mother-of-pearl accents, vintage buttons, upcycled crochet doilies, and vintage lace tablecloths come together in a collection that gives coastal living a fresh spin, with Tencel and silk adding to the mix.

Mother-of-pearl accents lend a natural shimmer to the designs, while vintage buttons add character and a touch of nostalgia. Upcycled crochet doilies and vintage lace tablecloths find new life in the collection, showcasing the charm of heirloom textiles when mixed with contemporary fashion. These details sit alongside Tencel and silk, balancing the delicate quality of the embellishments with the fluidity of the garments.

There’s a certain familiarity to the materials Arceo works with. Crochet doilies and lace tablecloths, for instance, often bring to mind summers spent at home, family gatherings, and the little things that make a space feel lived-in. Reworking them into clothing gives these everyday objects a new purpose, allowing their textures and histories to become part of a different story.

The collection also reflects Maligaya Clothing Co.’s approach to design, where thoughtful material choices and a sense of play aren’t mutually exclusive. At Fashion Week Asia 2026, Arceo offered a wardrobe that’s suited to long, sunlit days, with details that ask us to recognize the artistry found in mundane objects, made precious through memory, familiarity, and of course, the hottest (ergo, coolest) season of our tropical home.
