For Spring/Summer 2027, Tory Burch made room for feathers, saturated color, and pie-crust embroidery without letting things get out of hand.
Tory Burch has made a habit of forcing opposites to share a room, and for her Spring/Summer 2027 collection she held the negotiation in Isamu Noguchi’s Sunken Garden. The contradiction on offer was a gentle one. Burch summed it up as “opulent femininity meets American pragmatism,” and the clothes backed her up by following the way women really assemble an outfit: with an eye for beauty, a requirement for utility, and a healthy sense of humor about the whole enterprise.

How Tory Burch Spring/Summer 2027 Plays With The Classics
Burch kept the silhouettes loyal to the classics, which left the color free to do the talking. Opera coats, slouchy knits, and skirts slid down to the hips. A midcentury joie de vivre hums under all of it, though the drawstring trousers make clear that nobody is bracing for a girdle.
Mint green, violet, tomato red, and butter yellow arrived at full saturation. Burch color-blocked them across cardigans, then added embroidery so densely worked that it practically pulsates and, in the most appetizing sense, invites comparison to pie crust. Metallic threads glinted through the surface, and the fabrics held up their end of the conversation, with menswear wool lightened by silk, paper cotton washed and tie-dyed, and chenille that mimicked beach terrycloth. Deep browns and neutrals kept the palette from floating off.
The accessories supplied most of the theater. Feather scarves swung over knits and coats, like boas liberated from the dress-up trunk, a petal-strewn scarf in the manner of a lei opened the show, and the handbags ranged from paper bag-inspired Lee Radziwill shoppers to soft shoulder styles and handwoven baskets made with Marasim artisans.

A Sort Of Equilibirum
All of it adds up to something a little theatrical and firmly controlled, which is the level-headedness Burch has displayed for years and which this season put to a real test. Feathers, embroidery, and a full spectrum of saturated color would send most designers into a free-for-all, yet she kept one hand on the curtain rope, and the result is refreshing. At her best, Burch dresses the jet-setter, specifically the heiress with an art history degree and a flat full of curios whose provenanceProvenanceThe origin and history of an item, whether a wine, ingredient, artwork, or jewel, including where it was made. Strong provenance builds trust and value, especially in art, and inGo to Provenance Glossary she can recite on request.
So what’s she after? My sense is that Burch wants to steer clear of boring without tumbling into overt maximalism, and what she found instead is equilibrium. It’s a balance between the showy and the sensible that she herself has described as a response to the heaviness of current events. The conclusion is an optimistic one, even dopamine-inducing. Few things lift a mood as quickly as a tomato-red cardigan with pie-crust embroidery.
