As Filipinos struggle to restore their livelihood after the typhoon Ulysses, One Mega Group mounts #RisePH, an initiative to raise funds in support of 1000 families.
As everyone is still wrestling with the formidable impact of the pandemic, the country is hit with another calamity—a natural one at that. Recently, Typhoons Rolly and Ulysses ravaged Calabarzon, Bicol Region, and parts of Luzon including Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, and the Cordillera region. Thousands of families evacuated as the flood reached and destroyed their homes. With little help from national authorities, Filipinos are once again in dire need of immediate assistance to rebuild their lives and heal from the traumatic experience. One Mega Group Relief Operations reaches out to these individuals and families through organizing relief operations. Called #RisePH, the initiative calls out to fellow Filipinos to ignite the spirit of bayanihan by raising funds to support victims of the typhoon Ulysses.

A crippling devastation
While an average of 8-9 typhoons crosses over the Philippines, Filipinos continue to struggle with surviving the devastation that follows each landfall. Typhoon Ulysses that recently struck us is equivalent to a Category 2 Hurricane and so its impact flooded thousands of homes. Families got stranded on their rooftops for hours and some, for almost an entire night, waiting for rescue. Some who were able to wade through the flood fled to makeshift centers such as schools. However, with little to no possessions, they remain hungry, shivering from the cold, and grieving the loss of their homes, and in some cases, their loved ones.
As the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported, more than 8,000 families are now evacuated in Metro Manila alone. Worse, as of writing, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reports the death toll from typhoon Ulysses rise to 14 while the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) claims to discover 39 bodies.

This disaster compels us Filipinos to help each other out. Once again, we are left to rely on one another and volunteers, charities, non-profit organizations, and local government units. This time, One Mega Group Relief Operations joins the call to support the victims of the super typhoon. Through this effort, we are raising funds to support 1000 families. The funds will be used to organize care packages that include basic necessities such as clean drinking water, food, and hygiene products. The essentials will last a family for at least two days.
No matter the amount of donation, you can definitely contribute to the much-needed assistance of typhoon victims. We continue the culture of kindness that has been happening since the early days of the pandemic. Even if we get eventual donation fatigue, it is the closest we get to immediately supporting fellow Filipinos in these dire times. We must never get exhausted from helping especially when are privileged enough to share our graces.
