Lifestyle Asia provides an in-depth look at 10 personalities who showcased the beauty of their ensembles at Ternocon 2024.
Philippine flags flew high as we celebrated our country’s pride. Ternocon commemorated the 126th anniversary of Philippine Independence with a captivating fashion show.
Titled KKK: Kasarinlan, Kultura, Kasuotan, the event highlighted our rich cultural history through terno.
This celebration was made possible through the collaboration of Bench/Lifestyle + Clothing and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).
Three trailblazing fashion designers—Jojie Lloren, Cary Santiago, and Jaggy Glarino—stunned the audience with collections that honored Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Visayas: The Soul of Philippine Fashion
In the first part of our Ternocon coverage, we featured Luzon, where Jojie Lloren shared the inspiration behind his collection and his muse.
For the Visayas segment, Cary Santiago unveiled Ikonograpiya, a collection inspired by the Philippine flag and iconic national symbols.
Santiago told Lifestyle Asia, “I was assigned the theme to create iconic symbols based on the colors of the Philippine flag as the palette. It was very challenging because the colors are not my DNA; I prefer dark and muted colors whenever I present a collection. But I took it as a welcome challenge and thought of our national gems and symbols,” he said.
“I have several muses from both Manila and Cebu. I can’t just name one or two because there are several of them. These are my loyal clients and society ladies who have been with me for years. Some I now even consider friends. That night, my finale muse was Michelle Dee. I’ve known her since she was young because I’m friends with her mom, Melanie. She is such a joy to work with. Never a dull moment with her. Always on the go. She’s a goddess and perfect for my finale piece,” he added.

Designing Our Identity
Ternocon is a celebration of traditional Filipino formal wear. It showcases the iconic terno for women, characterized by its butterfly sleeves and floor-length skirt, and the barong tagalog for men, a formal shirt traditionally made of piña or jusi silk. The event also highlights Filipiniana, encompassing various traditional Filipino clothing.
With such a rich cultural heritage, there is immense pride in displaying the beauty of our own creations.
