Trend Alert: Suede Is The Next Big Thing In 2025

Discover how the suede trend started, how to style it, and care tips for your beloved pieces to maintain their luxe appeal.

One of the many things The Devil Wears Prada (2006) is famous for is Miranda Priestly’s “Cerulean Sweater Monologue.”  The memorable movie scene discusses how fashion trends are made—from high-end runway collections to mass-produced retail. The scene exemplifies the sociological concept of hierarchal diffusion, where trends emerge in elite, niched, and influential spaces before trickling down to the masses. This phenomenon supports our prediction that suede will be bigger and better in 2025.

From The Top

Before diving into our suede recommendations, let’s talk about how it became a fashion and internet sensation. Though this soft and velvety fabric has always been a textile choice for most designers, however, it was in 2024 that reignited the internet’s love for it.

In her Fall 2024 collection, Miuccia Prada for Miu Miu released a stunning line of suede jackets. From cropped and structured designs to more flowing silhouettes, Miu Miu reimagined the use of suede. As the models walked down the runway, the perception of suede in the fashion world was reintroduced as a statement fabric. In an instant, suede was elevated from its previously overlooked status to a key element of contemporary style.

After Miu Miu showcased its revamped take on suede, the fabric saw a surge in popularity across clothing and accessories. The Row’s Margaux bag in suede quickly became a favorite for those embracing the trend. Meanwhile, Dries Van Noten released a suede sneaker that perfectly captures the trend.

After gaining traction and popularity from massive fashion houses, suede became a sought-after material, with more people buying suede clothing and accessories from brands like Zara, Adidas, and e-commerce stores.

How To Wear It

Wearing suede in the Philippines is a brave move. The velvety fabric is not necessarily warm weather-friendly. However, styling suede pieces appropriate for our climate would let you wear the trend and be comfortable. Furthermore, choosing key pieces would also help in creating climate-appropriate suede outfits.

Wearing a sleeveless and airy suede dress is a good way to stay cool while wearing a piece of clothing made of a beautiful fabric.

Suede shoes are closet staples. The velvety leather often exudes luxury. Finding a good pair of suede shoes that can transition from day to night is a good way of using the fabric.

Sensible suede pants are another possible way to wear the leather fabric. Furthermore, pairing suede pants with sleeveless or oversized tops will make it more comfortable.

Lastly, the easiest way to use suede is to carry a bag made of it. The soft and velvety leather is the perfect material for sturdy yet luxurious bags.

Care Reminder

An important reminder is how to take care of your suede pieces. In most cases, suede may be cleaned by rubbing with a brush or a moist, lint-free cloth. It is essential to use straight motions in different directions to help remove dirt without forcing it deeper into the fibers.

Additionally, water may easily break down suede, leaving stains on its surface that are usually irreversible. Therefore, it’s better to avoid wearing boots and suede shoes in the rain.
