The Long Way There

O’Brien actually shot this episode back in October 2025, nearly a year before it airs. Fans spotted him wandering Bonifacio Global City, taking photo requests from strangers and posting a giddy “Mabuhay, Philippines!” on Instagram after landing in Manila. The trailer, since released, shows him walking through Luneta Park, trying balut in Intramuros, slurping halo-halo in Quiapo and swimming in candy in Quezon City. He also made it out to Tanauan, Batangas.

A Reunion Years In The Making

The emotional through-line comes from Mustafa, a Filipino fan O’Brien first met over Zoom on his podcast spinoff Conan O’Brien Needs a Fan. Back in an October 2024 episode, the two trained together long-distance as Mustafa chased his dream of becoming an action star. In Manila, O’Brien tracked him down in person and helped him get there for real, landing them both a scene together on the GMA police drama Sanggang-Dikit FR. O’Brien plays a medallion-stealing villain who declares himself invincible seconds before getting flipped onto a table and arrested, a bit he pulled off alongside Filipino stars Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado.

What Else Is On The Conan O’Brien Must Go Itinerary?

The official synopsis also promises O’Brien turning around a struggling local factory, which tracks with the show’s habit of dropping him into someone else’s job and letting the clash do the comedic work. Expect the balut moment to get its own spotlight, since the synopsis flags his hesitation before he actually eats it.

Season 3 has drawn a strong response so far, holding up best when O’Brien stops manufacturing bits and lets himself become the punchline. If that continues into the finale, the Philippines episode should give the season a fitting sendoff, and give Filipino viewers a close look at how an American host handles Manila on his own terms.
