Time has included the Philippine island of Boracay in its “The World’s Greatest Places Of 2022” list published July.

It captioned the island destination in Western Visayas as “Paradise reborn.”

To compile the list, Time solicited nominations from its international network of correspondents and contributors. It directed its “eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences.”

“Many of the destinations are charting a path to economic recovery; this year paradise reopens on The Philippines’ Boracay Island, which had been closed for years due to overtourism and then the COVID-19 pandemic,” Time reported.

Boracay has shifted from a once well-known party hotspot to a laidback getaway destination, according to the It’s More Fun In The Philippines website

The small island covers only 10 square kilometers, including farming land and preserved forest. Yet two of its beaches—White Beach and Yapak—made TripAdvisor’s “Top 25 Beaches in Asia in 2020” list.

“Since its reopening, Boracay has become much more tranquil, with a cap on visitor numbers and wild beach parties in favor of low-key activities and events,” It’s More Fun In The Philippines posted.

Island activities include snorkeling, scuba diving, kiteboarding, windsurfing, hiking, parasailing, cliff diving, kayaking, golfing, and more.

“As persistent as the challenges of life in 2022 is the hope that understanding and human connection can be found through travel. So, with much of the global population now vaccinated against COVID-19, world travelers are again hitting the road—and the skies. The hospitality industry is reopening and excited to safely welcome them and revitalize local communities,” Time concluded.
