Opening: SHIDO Brings “Japan In Motion” To Makati Shangri-La

By

A meal at SHIDO isn’t meant to be experienced the same way twice. The new Japanese restaurant brings together sushi, robatayaki, teppanyaki, a Japanese bar, and seasonal programming with Executive Japanese Chef Daisuke Nishimura at the helm.

Opening inside Makati Shangri-La, SHIDO takes its name from the Japanese word shidō (始動), meaning “starting in motion.” Led by Executive Japanese Chef Daisuke Nishimura, the restaurant brings together sushi, robatayaki, teppanyaki, a Japanese bar, and an all-day dining experience under one roof, united by a philosophy that Japanese cuisine remains dynamic while still staying true to its origins.

“Manila’s dining scene continues to evolve, with guests increasingly seeking experiences that go beyond the meal itself,” says Jonathan Reynolds, General Manager of Makati Shangri-La, Manila. “SHIDO was created as a place where guests can experience Japan through its cuisine, culture, and hospitality. For us, Japan in Motion is about creating new reasons to discover and rediscover Japan with every visit.”

What Dining Experiences Does SHIDO At Makati Shangri-La Offer?

Rather than centering on a single format, SHIDO is designed as a collection of experiences. Guests can move between the precision of the Sushi Counter, the smoky theatre of Robatayaki, the energy of Teppanyaki, the discovery-driven Japanese Bar, and the more relaxed atmosphere of the Main Dining room.

The restaurant’s “Japan in Motion” philosophy extends beyond the menu itself, with plans for guest chef collaborations, seasonal showcases, and future culinary residencies that aim to keep each visit feeling distinct.
