3 Events That Celebrated Beauty This 2023

These events uplifted beauty in all its forms through creative celebrations that emphasized self-love, altruism, and empowerment.

Beauty comes in different forms, from its more physical manifestations to its more intangible characteristics like how someone carries themselves with confidence and kindness. Though 2023 is far from over, there have already been marvelous celebrations that cultivated an appreciation for all things beautiful.

As mentioned, beauty is more than skin-deep, which is why these occasions placed a lot of emphasis on self-love, confidence, personal growth, charity, and even professional empowerment. After all, it’s not enough to look beautiful; one must also feel beautiful through the things they say and do.

On that note, below are three particularly noteworthy events that made this year extra special for their guests:

The Manila Hair Show 2023

L’Oréal Professionnel’s Manila Hair Show returned bigger and better than ever with an evening composed of stunning runway shows, live hair styling demos from the brand’s ambassadors, and booths for L’Oréal’s roster of professional products. The heart of the event, however, was its mission to further educate and enhance the careers of thousands of Filipino and Philippine-based hair stylists.

An Educational Endeavor

The show not only highlighted the significance and artistry behind hair care, but also emphasized the necessity of providing more educational and career opportunities for the country’s many talented hair stylists.

“What every stylist will tell you is that it’s different when you actually practice: so that’s what we [L’Oréal Professionnel] have been doing. We’ve been going to salons and we’ve been holding cluster training sessions,” shared Bryan Duruin, the General Manager of L’Oréal Philippines Professional Products Division, during a press interview. “We’ve [also] been doing road shows all throughout the Philippines’ major cities to remind the stylists of the techniques they may have forgotten.”

“You know, in our country, there’s no truly formal education. So as a market, we really come in and provide that through our certification programs. […] This is our effort to professionalize in the absence of an existing sort of professional education for hairdressing,” Duruin continued.

Professional Passion

Roughly 1,500 Filipino hair professionals attended the event to learn innovative techniques from the brand’s trusted ambassadors. Raman Bhardwaj—the L’Oréal Professionnel India Artistic Ambassador—opened the show with an entertaining demo of his delicate techniques. This was followed by an equally entertaining and informative masterclass from Min Kim—an acclaimed New York-based celebrity hair stylist, master colorist, and L’Oréal Professionnel Global Ambassador.

In an exclusive interview with Lifestyle Asia, Min Kim shared her favorite part of being a stylist amid her years of experiences. “I think [it’s] the transformative experience that I’m able to share with my guests and with all the people that I get to work with around the world. So from a client perspective, it’s just seeing how someone can walk in the door feeling terrible, and when they feel good they look good, and they walk out and it’s a total mood shifter,” explained the star hair stylist.

“And as for the hairdressers, [my favorite part of the job] is just empowering them with education to really be able to share with their customers, the consumers, how to achieve the look,” Kim continued. “So it’s taking the power back because as much as social media has been amazing, it’s also creating a lot of “kitchen-beautician” disasters. So it’s really about educating our consumers to know that the professional truly knows what’s best.”
