Aside from being style and lifestyle icons, these young women forged their paths abroad by obtaining education outside the country.
In this day and age, where anyone can be a social media influencer, the idea of who is a societal scion is questioned. A scion during the hay days of tabloids is defined as the typical rich and dumb girl who knows her way around luxury department stores. However, the idea of a ditzy rich kid is a thing of the past—a societal scion today is empowered, well-educated, and still well-dressed.
The Philippines has its fair share of notable descendants, but these new-gen scions are on another level. Aside from being pretty and fashionable—these young women decided to obtain higher education in prestigious universities abroad. Moreover, they are proving how power comes from beauty and brains.

Hannah Gokongwei
Hannah Gokonwei, daughter of Lance Gokongwei (president and CEO of JG Summit), is currently studying at Harvard University. The Harvard sophomore is currently concentrating on East Asian studies. Hannah is also part of the Organization of Asian American Sisters in Service (OAASIS) and Harvard Hawaiʻi Club—she is also using some of her spare time to mentor at the Harvard Ed Portal.
Rocio Tambunting
Another new-generation scion is Rocio Tambunting. Rocio is the daughter of Miguel Tambunting (CEO of JPT Central Corporation) and Claudia Wilson-Tambunting (granddaughter of the former Philippine Ambassador of Spain). She graduated from the New York City-based film school, Barnard College. Currently, she is managing her own jewelry business, Rare by Rocio. Her small business offers hip and chic high-quality jewelry.
Nicole Coson
This established London-based artist is the granddaughter of Henry Sy Sr. (the biggest mall magnate in the Philippines). Nicole Coson forged her path—she graduated from the famous art school Central Saint Martins. She specializes in art that involves analog printmaking techniques, resulting in pieces that are textural masterpieces.
Kayla Uytengsu
Kayla Uytengsu is the daughter of Fred Uytengsu (Chairman of Alaska Milk Corporation) and Kerri Dunn-Uytengsu. She graduated from Standford University with a degree in Political Science focusing on Economic/Social Development and International Relations. She also minored in Psychology. Currently, she is a Content Marketing Associate for Flowcode® in New York City.
