With the ways music can induce dopamine release in our brains, we asked young music lovers what’s currently on their playlists and the albums they consider classics.
Here are Jose Forés, Sofia Coyiuto, and Keana Rustia’s top tracks right now that you can consider adding to your playlist, too.
Jose Forés
“I am a sucker for disco beats,” Forés says. And that’s why New York City (SAC’s Groove Mix) by Odyssey and Lillian Lopez is the song currently on repeat from his playlist.
At the same time, he appreciates when DJs sample classic tracks, which he “ultimately reintroduces the song.” He mentions that Sailing by Chicane would be an example of this
He lists Rumours by Fleetwood Mac, Elton John’s Greatest Hits 1970 – 2002, and Amplified Heart by Everything But The Girl as classic, timeless, and a balanced mix between lyrics and nostalgic sounds, respectively. The four albums are also Forés’ go-to collections for sounds he feels he’ll constantly enjoy.
To remind him of “simpler times,” “Pink Life,” by Gyskard is a track he plays. However, he plays SkyTrain (Vocal Mix) by Omar S and Nite Jewel to get a night started.
Sofia Coyiuto
Coyiuto has Elton John and Dua Lipa’s latest collaboration, “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix),” at the top of her most-listened-to tracks at the moment.
She enjoys “How I Built This” by Guy Raz for her favorite podcast, which features founders of well-known companies as guests. “During the past year, the podcast also introduced a new series called, ‘How I Build Resilience,’ which talks about how businesses have navigated their way during the pandemic,” Coyiuto shares.
For days when she’s in a slump, she plays any Sara Barelles song. “It always makes me feel better,” she says.
The other artists that provide Coyiuto mood-boosting tracks are pop and r&b stars Beyoncé, Megan The Stallion, Saweetie, Lizzo, and Cardi B.
Keana Rustia
Ever since K-pop supergroup BTS released their hit song “Butter,” it became Rustia’s most listened to track. “It’s even gotten my parents to become [part of] the Army,” she says with a laugh.
As a BTS fan, she shares that she can’t seem to get tired of any of their albums. “I can honestly [come back to] any BTS album from 2018 to 2020. Especially their Love Yourself album, too many favorite tracks in there that I can always listen to anytime and anywhere,” she says,
Music also serves as Rustia’s pre-workout energizer. “I’ve been listening to a lot of 2000’s R&B tracks lately,” she shares. “When I work from home, or even for a workout pump, I would blast throwback Usher and Chris Brown songs.”
