Elton John’s AIDS foundation, backed by several prominent philanthropists including Donatella Versace, fights HIV/AIDS with the aim of raising $125 million.
Elton John, who has had a remarkable career spanning six decades, is currently embarking on his farewell tour. However, he and his husband, David Furnish, have just announced an exciting new project that signifies the beginning of his lasting impact.
The Elton John AIDS Foundation, founded over 30 years ago, is unveiling the Rocket Fund, an initiative with the aim of raising $125 million to combat the virus that ignited a transformative global epidemic in the 1980s and continues to afflict millions today.
The Rocket Fund has set an ambitious goal: to utilize the funds it gathers to support projects that strive to eradicate AIDS by 2030. Several prominent philanthropists, including David Geffen, Tani Austin, and Donatella Versace, have committed to donating and collaborating with the fund.
In a recent announcement, fashion designer Donatella Versace revealed that she will match donations during Pride Month, up to $300,000, as part of a multi-million dollar contribution from Versace, her daughter Allegra Versace, and The Versace Foundation to the Rocket Fund.
Alongside the fundraising efforts, the Elton John AIDS Foundation is launching a social media campaign called #InnerElton, encouraging celebrities and creators to showcase their interpretations of Elton John’s iconic styles.
The Rocket Fund focuses on addressing healthcare disparities, stigma, and prejudice fueling HIV/AIDS spread.
By financing innovative programs and collaborating with community-engaged organizations, the Rocket Fund enhances access to vital health services. It challenges harmful laws, empowers at-risk individuals for health prioritization through prevention and information.
“I am deeply honored to serve as a co-chair of The Rocket Fund and to support this crucial initiative alongside The Versace Foundation. As Chief Creative Officer of Versace, I take immense pride in advocating for inclusivity and fairness, and we are fully committed to assisting Elton and his extraordinary Foundation in their mission to eliminate AIDS and the associated stigma by 2030” said Donatella Versace, Chief Creative Officer, Versace.
With the announcement of the Rocket Fund, John continues to make an impact in the fight against AIDS. Supported by philanthropists and fighting inequalities, the Rocket Fund aims to combat HIV/AIDS effectively.
Through fundraising initiatives and a powerful social media campaign, this noble cause is gaining momentum and spreading awareness. Together, we can strive to eradicate AIDS and eliminate the stigma surrounding it in the future.
