Dressing on theme is not a request, but an expectation. While the usual galas call for a suit and tie, the men of Met Gala 2023 took it to the next level.
Men’s formal wear is usually everyone’s least favorite style category, just because there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of variety. But this year, these men really stepped up their game, and lived the Met Gala lines of “More is more.”
With this year’s theme of “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” the Met Gala exhibited costumes, styles, and designs that traced Lagerfeld’s prolific career in fashion, film, photography, and art.
We’ve rounded up some of the best men’s looks of the night.

Simu Liu
Liu embraced the iconic image of Karl Lagerfeld himself, in a custom Versace suit. If we’re talking about black suit and tie, better serve like Simu Liu.
The distinctive high-neck collar, the gloves, the tie. This is so Karl.
Bad Bunny

“So proud to share with you my first Met, with my favorite artist, Bad Bunny. The Met means so much to me, Karl was my favorite designer,” shared by Jacquemus in an Instagram post, “Karl Forever <3” he added.
Diddy
Together with Yung Miami as his date. He wore all black including a cape. “Tonight I honor the greats, Karl Lagerfeld & André Leon Talley. Embracing Karl’s love for pearls and camellias, this look is a tribute to their legendary impact on fashion,” Diddy shared in an Instagram post.
Dwyane Wade
Wade in Prada gives a nod to Karl Lagerfeld, the commander of leather and capes. “Haven’t Met a theme I couldn’t handle,” shared by Wade in an Instagram post.
Jackson Wang
In Louis Vuitton, Wang is literally dressed as Karl himself. Channeling that Kaiser Karl, this is how you serve in a suit.
Jeremy Pope
A serve. No, really. A SERVE. Pope in Balmain. Amen.
The Met Gala this year proves to us that men are finally embracing out-of-the-box fashion and not just wearing basic suits to red carpets anymore. We would love to see more of that.
