The beloved bakery expands into a new, cozy Makati space for breakfast, brunch, and the kind of baked goods people come back for.
A familiar name in Manila’s baking scene has found a new home in Legazpi Village. Scratch, the small-batch bakery known for its sourdough and pastries, expands into a brighter, more spacious setup in Makati—this time with a fuller breakfast and brunch menu built around its signature breads.
Scratch Keeps Its Neighborhood Spirit
Founded by Ralph Sy and Charlene Ng, Scratch first gained a following through its neighborhood outpost in Communa, where it built a reputation for well-made baked goods. That space now operates as a commissary, with the new Legazpi Village location marking a natural next step.
While longtime staples remain, the menu now leans into sit-down breakfast and brunch, giving diners a chance to experience Scratch’s breads in more composed dishes. It’s still very much a neighborhood spot, but just one that invites you to stay a little longer.

What To Order At Scratch In Makati
At the center of the menu is, unsurprisingly, the bread. Dishes are built around it, whether in a mortadella sandwich layered with house ricotta, pesto, and hot honey on focaccia; or a mushroom toast topped with herb hummus, confit mushrooms, and za’atar.
For the breakfast fare, co-founder Ralph suggests the granola for a balanced start, made with tahini, house yogurt, and a papaya-pink pepper jam. Meanwhile the French toast, soaked in cardamom custard and finished with salted burnt honey cream, offers a more indulgent option.

Inside Scratch’s New Space
The new space is bright and welcoming, with full windows letting in natural light and a communal table anchoring the room. An open kitchen adds a sense of movement, while the interiors remain pared-back: slightly industrial, but softened by the easy rhythm of a neighborhood cafe.
It feels like a place you could easily settle into as part of your daily routine. On its second day alone, a line had already formed by 9 AM, with early visitors (i.e. the Lifestyle Asia team) stopping by for pastries before returning later in the day to try the full menu.
Scratch is located at 106 Aguirre St., Legazpi Village, Makati. It is open Wednesday to Sunday, 9 AM to 4 PM, for walk-ins only. For more information, visit @goodsfromscratch.
