Playing it Cool: Tiffany & Co.’s Daniel Arsham-Designed Basketball Highlights the Jeweler’s 160-Year-Old Sports Trophy History

The $575 ball will be sold exclusive over NBA All Star Weekend.

Ahead of this year’s NBA All Star Weeked in Cleveland, Tiffany and Co. has worked with New York-based artist anew for a limited-edition Wilson basketball priced at $575. It will be sold exclusively at a pop-up called the “Tiffany & Co. x Arsham Studio Half Court.”

The basketball is in Tiffany’s trademark blue and bears both its name and that of the artist’s studio. It also features both the studio’s “A” monogram with the Cleveland Cavaliers’ “C.” Arsham announced the collaboration on social media. “For the next stage of my ongoing partnership with @tiffanyandco, we worked on something just for Cleveland and the All Star Weekend. Available exclusively at the @cavs pop up with @stockx Feb 18-20 in Cleveland,” his Instagram post goes.

This is the second team up between the artist and the jeweler, following lasts September “Future Relics” on the Tiffany blue box. Arsham’s striking “Blue Box, Circa 3021” with bronze jutting around it contains a Tiffany bangle in 18k white gold with diamonds and tsavorites. Tiffany blue is also seen in several of his works, from post-apocalyptic looking cars to statues.

A frequent collaborator with artists, Tiffany & Co. just released a partnership with another New York artist, Curtis Kulig, for Valentine’s Day. Called “Blue is the Color of Love,” the campaign juxtaposes Kulig’s artworks for Tiffany & Co. alongside jewelry collections such as Tiffany HardWear, Tiffany Atlas, and Tiffany T.

Sports is also always on the jeweler’s mind, being the maker of important sports trophies for more than 160 years. This includes the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy and NFL’s Vince Lombardi Trophy. Tiffany has been producing the latter since the 1960s, and came out with a similar blue-toned pigskin for the recently concluded Super Bowl LVI.

Other major sports that Tiffany has created a trophy include horseracing (Woodlawn Vase, Belmont Memorial Challenge Cup, Arlington Million Trophy), Boat Racing (Viking Rowing Trophy, Goelet Cups), Baseball (World Series Rings), Autoracing (Vanderbilt Cup), Running, (Samuel Rudin Trophy), Tennis (US Open singles and doubles championship trophies), and even E-sports (Monster Strike Grandprix Trophy, Dragon Trophy).
